Our History & Values

What started as a small asphalt plant in 1903, American Asphalt has grown to be a leader in the asphalt manufacturing, commercial paving and parking lot maintenance business. In 1986, the company was purchased by current Chairman Robert Brown and continues to prosper by doing things RIGHT. The acronym RIGHT represents its commitment to the core values of being performance-driven and treating others with Respect, doing what we say and demonstrating Integrity, being accountable with actions that honor God, consistently dealing fairly, safely and Honestly, and earning Trust by caring about customers and each other.

With locations throughout New Jersey, a commitment to customer satisfaction, product accessibility. and paving and repair services experience, American Asphalt is poised to grow our parking lot maintenance market reach to general contractors, property managers, builders and other commercial professionals.

In 2018, American Asphalt implemented an employee stock ownership program by selling the majority of our stock to our workforce. The program provides the company’s primarily long-term employees with beneficial ownership of company stock as part of their retirement plan, and the opportunity to enjoy the outcomes of their hard work towards the company’s success. The company has grown from revenues of $1 million in 1985 to more than $70 million in 2021. Over the years, we’ve been recognized with New Jersey Business and Industry Association Award for Excellence and as a South Jersey Business magazine Best Places to Work.

American Asphalt’s RIGHT values extend beyond being our customers and employees to impact our communities. Our ongoing engagement, led by the company’s Caring Committee, includes the following outreach activities: Adopt a family program for families with foster children, The Ronald McDonald House in Camden, NJ, South Jersey Food Bank, Volunteers of America, Saint Prison Ministry, The Sam T Foundation, Samaritan Hospice, Alzheimer’s Foundation, Young Life and CRU (Christian Campus Ministry) at Rowan and West Chester Universities, The Unforgotten Haven and MD Anderson, Capstone Legacy, Veterans Transition Summit hosted by Chambers of Commerce Southern New Jersey, Gloucester Catholic High School’s Robert and Jean Keenan Memorial Scholars program, Saints Prison Ministry and more!
